Kansas City Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)
Print PagePregnancies, weight gain and weight loss take a tremendous toll on your figure, especially in the stomach area. Repeatedly stretched and scarred, most women's bellies are loose, oversized and out of shape. But they don't have to be. Dr. Lamb sees many patients with these issues and often will recommend a tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty). The abdominoplasty can remove the excess skin and tighten up the underlying musculature giving you a flatter, firmer, tighter stomach and a thinner waist as well.
Your Tummy Tuck Consultation
If you are interested in a tummy tuck, Dr. Lamb will begin the process with a comprehensive screening and personal consultation to understand what you are trying to accomplish. If you have specific questions, Dr. Lamb encourages you to write them down and bring them to the initial consultation. He will spend the time necessary to answer your questions and make sure you feel comfortable with the procedure. After your discussion and an examination, Dr. Lamb can determine if the tummy tuck surgery procedure is right for you.
Your Tummy Tuck Procedure
To prepare for your surgery, you should follow all of Dr. Lamb’s tummy tuck preoperative instructions to ensure the best outcome. If you have any questions as you prepare for the abdominoplasty procedure make sure to call the office to get answers.
Dr. Lamb uses several popular approaches to perform his tummy tuck procedures. He will explain each to you during your consultation and determine which approach is best for you. The most common tummy tuck procedure involves Dr. Lamb making an incision across your lower abdomen, a little above your public area and beneath your bikini line. He will also make an incision around the belly button to free it from the surrounding skin.
Next, Dr. Lamb will separate your skin from the abdominal wall and lift it above the rib cage so that he can than pull your loose tissue from the left and right of the abdomen together, towards the center and sutures it together. This procedure tightens your muscles, provides a stronger abdominal wall, and makes your waist smaller. Any excess skin is then removed and a new opening is made for the belly button at the proper position (the old opening is now much too low).
After Your Tummy Tuck Procedure
After surgery, you will have some soreness and discomfort which can be controlled with medication. You may be up and around in a day or two, but you should avoid overactivity and straining for 3-4 weeks. You may have to wear a light support garment for several weeks.
By removing the sagging, excess skin and accumulated fatty tissue, you'll immediately enjoy a flatter, firmer abdomen and thinner waist. Although every effort is made to minimize scarring, the scars will be permanent but will fade over time. Within 3-6 months your scars should get flatter, become lighter in color and improve considerably.
Dr. Lamb encourages you to review his before and after tummy tuck pictures to see examples of his work. He has many more photos in his office and will be glad to review these with you at your consultation.
