Botox is one of the most popular non-surgical anti-aging treatments- for good reason! Dr. Lamb has been injecting Botox since it was approved by the FDA in 2002. It can be used to smooth wrinkles, lift eyebrow arches, reduce the size of bulky facial muscles (for example, the masseter in the jaw), and for therapeutic benefits such as easing migraines and excessive sweating.
While you may already know a bit about Botox, we realize it can be scary to get injected for the first time. So, we answered the most common questions we are asked about Botox for those who are considering injections.
How does Botox work?
Botox, or botulinum toxin, is a neuromodulator that is injected with a very small needle. It works by blocking the nerve signals needed for facial muscles to contract. We contract our facial muscles all day, and those repetitive contractions cause expression lines and wrinkles. Once Botox is injected, it relaxes those muscles and decreases the movement to reduce the lines or wrinkles in the area. Our injectors, Dr. Lamb and Dominique, RN, inject tiny amounts most commonly in the forehead, between the brows, and around the eyes.
Does it hurt?
Botox injections feel like a light sting. The injections themselves take about 3 minutes, so there is only brief discomfort during the treatment. At Healthylooks Medspa, patients can add Pro-Nox Nitrous Oxide to their treatment to relieve pain and ease anxiety.
How long do Botox results last?
Botox results set in 4-14 days after injection. Results last 3-4 months. Patients with higher metabolism will digest it more quickly. So our younger, more active patients can expect to see fine lines return about 12 weeks after injection.
Will Botox make me look frozen?
No two faces are the same, and everyone requires a slightly different dosage. Stronger, more expressive muscles need a higher dose, or more units of Botox. Dr. Lamb and Dominique can inject just the right dosage to achieve the look you desire. Some of our patients want a subtle look, while others want all their wrinkles gone. We will always inject the correct amount based on your facial anatomy and aesthetic goals.
How much does it cost?
You can expect to pay $200-450 depending on the amount injected. We honor Brilliant Distinctions, Jeuveau and Apsire rewards points to help lower your cost.
What is the difference between Botox and other neurotoxins?
There are 4 neurotoxins approved by the FDA: Botox, Jeuveau (“Newtox,”) Dysport and Xeomin. All toxins weaken the wrinkle-causing muscles in the upper face. Think of the different neuromodulator manufacturers like Coke vs Pepsi. The brands are similar with a few differing properties, so it comes down to patient or injector preference. Dr. Lamb has experience injecting all brands. We feel that the results with each brand are extremely similar. Based on your concerns and budget, Dr. Lamb will recommend the right toxin for you.
