It’s fall in Kansas City, which is the perfect time to correct summer sun damage. Overexposure
to the sun damages the skin on the surface and cellular levels. Stress from the sun causes
hyperpigmentation as well as the skin to break down collagen and elastin, which leads to fine
lines, wrinkles, and volume loss. We recommend the Fraxel treatment and/or the Perfect Derma Peel to reverse this damage. Plus the treatments are 20% off in October!
What is a Fraxel Skin Resurfacing Treatment?
Fraxel is the original non-ablative fractional skin resurfacing treatment. “Non-ablative” means
that the treatment heats the underlying tissue without removing the top skin layer. “Fractional”
means that the treatment treats a fraction of the tissue at a time, leaving the surrounding tissue
intact. Because the treatment is non-ablative and fractional, the skin is able to heal much faster
and stimulate the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out.
The Fraxel treatment improves tone, texture, radiance, and sun-damaged or scarred skin.
Fraxel helps patients look younger without dramatic/unnatural changes, surgery, or extended
downtime.
Fraxel: What to Expect
On the day of the appointment, the skin is numbed with a high-strength topical numbing cream for 1 hour. The treatment itself takes about 45 minutes. For patients with low pain tolerance and/or
anxiety, we recommend adding Pro-Nox to make the treatment more comfortable.
Day 1 (day of treatment): Patients leave feeling and looking like they have a sunburn. Patients
can take ibuprofen to ease any discomfort.
Day 2: The skin may appear red or bronzy, like a deep tan. The skin feels dry and almost like
sandpaper.
Days 3-4: The skin begins to peel from the nose out to the hairline.
Day 5: Peeling may still be occurring but is nearly done.
1-week post-treatment: Skin may be slightly pink, but patients will see smoother, more vibrant
skin.
What is The Perfect Derma Peel?
The Perfect Derma Peel is a safe and effective medium depth peel that is safe for all skin types
and ethnicities. It is a blend of different acids including TCA, Retinoic, Salicylic, Kojic Acid, and
Phenol. The main benefits of this peel are that it improves the overall clarity, tone, and texture of
the skin, reduces hyperpigmentation, sun damage, or Melasma, improves acne skin and
reduces acne scars, tightens pores, and stimulates collagen production resulting in firmer
younger-looking skin. The Perfect Peel is the only peel that includes the powerful antioxidant
Glutathione, which lightens and brightens the skin, slows down the aging process and helps to
prevent wrinkles. This is a very quick treatment with minimal downtime. Peeling typically begins
on day 3 or 4 and usually lasts 2-4 days with full results in about 1 week.
Should I get the Fraxel or Perfect Derma Peel?
The Fraxel and Perfect Derma Peel address similar concerns: hyperpigmentation, rough/uneven texture,
fine lines and wrinkles, and pore size. Use this guide to help decide which one is best for you!
– The Fraxel is $800-1000 whereas the Perfect Derma Peel is $240-300.
– The Fraxel is a laser and the Perfect Derma Peel is a chemical peel. The Fraxel requires numbing,
while the Perfect Derma Peel does not.
– The Fraxel can reach the skin’s epidermis and dermis levels, while the Perfect Derma Peel
reaches just the epidermis. Both treatments will cause significant peeling and will improve
superficial pigment, elasticity, and texture issues. But because the Fraxel goes deeper in the skin
and uses heat, it gives a more long-lasting result and builds/repairs collagen and elastin more
effectively than the Perfect Peel.
– Acne Guide: If you are treating active acne, we recommend the Perfect Derma Peel. If you no
longer have blemishes and you are treating acne scars, we recommend a series of Fraxel
treatments.
