Our skin has different needs when the seasons change. With the cooler temperature and dryer air, your skincare routine might need some adjustments. Below are some tips on how to transition your skincare regimen from Summer to Fall.
Don’t Stop Applying Sunscreen
Sunscreen is easiest to remember in the Summer, but it’s important to apply SPF all year long! The sun’s UVA and UVB rays are damaging no matter the weather. Sun exposure leads to aging, but more importantly, too much sun can raise your risk for skin cancer. We suggest a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.
Reverse Summer Damage
Speaking of sun damage… Now’s the time to correct hyperpigmentation and fine lines that the summer sun caused. The best active ingredients to reverse sun damage are Retinol and Vitamin C.
- Retinol products increase cell turnover. This means you’ll clear out the old, damaged cells and make way for new skin cells. Retinol also increases collagen production to reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Keep in mind that IRRITATION IS NORMAL when starting Retinol. Dryness and redness are expected for a few weeks while your skin adjusts to Retinol.
- Our favorite is Revision Skincare’s Retinol. It contains supplemental ingredients to help combat the redness and dryness normally associated with Retinol products. If you are new to Retinol, we recommend starting with DEJ Night, which has .25% retinol. Then you can work your way up in strength to Retinol Complete 0.5, then finally to Retinol Complete 1.0

- Vitamin C protects skin cells from damaging free radicals caused by UV exposure. It also inhibits melanin production in the skin, which helps to lighten hyperpigmentation and brown spots, even out skin tone, and enhance skin radiance.
- Our favorite is Revision Skincare’s C+ Correcting Complex 30%. It is formulated with THD Ascorbate, the gold standard of Vitamin C. It corrects existing damage and protects your skin from future damage. It even protects the skin from blue light from computer and phone screens. C+ Correcting Complex 30% is also formulated with prebiotic technology to support the skin’s Microbiome.

- For severe dryness, we recommend a thicker balm applied on top of your moisturizer at night.
- Our favorite is Alastin Skincare’s Soothe and Protect Recovery Balm. It has a texture similar to Aquaphor. It surges moisture in the skin and is especially great for chapped or cracked skin that comes with the Kansas City winter months.
