Dermal fillers are cosmetic fillers injected to enhance volume and fill deep wrinkles. All USA FDA-approved dermal fillers have the same parent chemical, hyaluronic acid. However the size of particles and the way the fillers are cross-linked differ. These differences give the fillers different properties. You could say Hyaluronic Acid fillers are all part of the same family, but each filler has a different personality.
There are two major families of filler: Juvederm fillers and Restylane fillers. The Juvederm fillers include Juvederm, Juvederm Ultra, Juvederm Ultra Plus, Volbella, Vollure and Voluma. The Restylane fillers include Restylane, Defyne, Kysse, Lyft, Refyne, and Silk.
When assessing which type to inject, Healthylooks’ injectors, Dr. Jerome Lamb and Dominique Cardello, RN, pay attention to where and how deep the filler is injected. They then match that criteria to a filler with the right G-prime. G-prime measures stiffness/elasticity. A filler with a low G-prime is soft and squishy. We inject these fillers superficially, just under the skin. A low G-prime filler is great for soft areas like the lips or wrinkles around the mouth. A filler with a high G-prime is stiff and has more lift. We inject these fillers much deeper, such as on bone or just in front of bone. A high G-prime is great for enhancing bone structure, filling cheeks, etc.
It is important to see an experienced injector that has a strong understanding of anatomy, filler properties, and the risks associated with fillers. At Healthylooks Medspa, we take a customized approach- we don’t believe in “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to injectables.
