We are so happy to say hello to summer and goodbye to COVID restrictions! With summer sun exposure, there are a few skincare treatments that are “off limits,” for example, BBL, Fraxel, and harsh Chemical Peels. However, we can do microneedling to the skin in the summer, regardless of sun exposure!
Microneedling treats acne scars, surgical scars, wrinkles, fine lines, large pores, and uneven skin texture. Downtime is very minimal, and the skin looks like a light sunburn for about 24 hours. Microneedling works by creating micro injuries in the skin to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. (Collagen helps keep skin firm, while elastin helps keep skin tight.)
Types of Microneedling
There are two types of microneedling: Rejuvapen and Secret RF. Secret RF is just like Rejuvapen except that it incorporates fractional radio frequency waves to help revitalize and rejuvenate skin tissue. We recommend Secret RF for those who want a more aggressive treatment. Patients usually receive a series of three treatments, and it can take up to 6 weeks to see full results after the final treatment.
Both types of Microneedling treatments can be paired with PRP (platelet rich plasma). PRP is plasma derived from your own blood. Once your blood is drawn, it is spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the blood cells. This plasma is bright yellow, so it’s nickname is “liquid gold.” The plasma is applied to the surface of the skin throughout the treatment. Plasma contains the following:
- Platelets and fibrinogen that aid in blood clotting (which is a good thing!)
- Growth factors for collagen formation
- Albumin to help retain moisture, firmness, and gloss
- Cytokines which stimulate the immune system to repair the skin

We recommend Microneedling treatments this summer to address skin texture, then starting BBLs, Fraxels and/or chemical peel treatments in the fall/winter to improve your skin tone. To schedule, call or text 816-795-5262.
